Understanding Distemper

Brief overview.

Distemper is an airborne virus which does NOT require contact for transmission. It is common vaccinated against, similarly to Rabies.

In-depth overview.

Unlike Rabies, Distemper is somewhat unknown to most pet owners, but it is just if not more deadly. With no contact needed, an animal infected with distemper could infect an entire household.

Symptoms are that of a common cold

  • Lethargy
  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Dehydration

but will lead to 

  • Seizures
  • Discharge from eyes
  • Swelling or rash of the face including lips, nose, and chin
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhoea

The incubation period is 7 to 21 days.
